POSITION TITLE: Maintenance Driver
LOCATION/DEPT: Harbor Light
REPORTS TO: Maintenance Supervisor
FLSA CATEGORY: Non-Exempt
STATUS TYPE: Regular Full-Time
PROGRAM/CLIENT ENVIRONMENT
The backgrounds of the clients served by The Harbor Light Program will manifest a variety of inappropriate behaviors. When this occurs, employees are to respond within the context of the treatment environment of the site. Employee conduct (actions, dress, etc) and interactions (conversations, written communications, etc.) with clients must also be within the treatment environment of the facility.
OUTCOMES
This position is responsible for all pick-ups and deliveries for the Harbor Light and Service Center.
Responsibilities
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITES
The van is driven for food/donation pickups and other designated pickups, such as Home League Group or deliveries, as assigned by the Maintenance Supervisor. The trip log is maintained.
Shuttle service for Harbor Light staff and program participants is provided when needed.
Assistance is given in the unloading and storage of any goods, commodities, furniture and other equipment delivered to the Harbor Light Center.
Scheduled maintenance check-ups and upkeep on fleet is scheduled and maintained. The fleet is kept clean.
The mail from Harbor Light and Corrections at DHQ is picked up from DHQ. Contracts and other time sensitive materials are picked up and delivered as needed.
At the direction of the Maintenance Supervisor assistance is given in collecting and disposing of all garbage in designated areas on a daily basis, maintenance and sanitation of all bathroom facilities is performed and carpeted areas are vacuumed as assigned.
All other duties as assigned.
Qualifications
EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE
- Previous driving experience preferred.
COMPETENCIES
Must possess a valid Illinois Class C driver’s license with passenger endorsement.
Must have a good driving record and clear The Salvation Army’s MVR application.
Must be able to work as a team member and work well with the public.
Good communication and interpersonal skills.
Work at a fairly fast pace.
Knowledge of the Chicago area.
Demonstrated ability to use initiative and be a self starter.
A positive attitude and the ability to be flexible in light of changing job situations/priorities.
Supportive of the mission of The Salvation Army.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS/WORK ENVIRONMENT
This position is required to do light to heavy physical work and must be able to walk up two flights of stairs and lift up to 100lbs.
In order to successfully perform the essential functions of this position, the employee is regularly required to operate a vehicle.
The work environment for this position includes an office and outside environment with a low to high noise level.
Must be able to work in all types of weather elements including severe conditions.
Must be able to work with clients that have poor social skills, suffer from mental illness, and have substance abuse problems.
