POSITION SUMMARY - Line Packer - Chicago

The line packer perform various functions on the production filling and packaging lines, meeting quality and efficiency goals while working safely and within plant GMP’s.

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:

  • Use safe work practices including lockout/tag out, personal protective equipment, and all other GMP practices and procedures.

  • Start-up and operate packaging line equipment, such as: uncase, filler, capper, labeler, coders, and case packer.

  • Load machine/line stations with materials, parts and pieces necessary to finish product on an as needed basis; clear jams and remove rejects as necessary.

  • Monitor and inspect product periodically to maintain quality standards; notify appropriate employees when adjustments are necessary.

  • Perform duties specific to the assigned line as required at each work station on a rotating basis.

  • Clean machines and associated equipment daily. Notify appropriate personnel if repairs or adjustments are required.

  • Pack finished product for shipment as required.

  • Participate in training/familiarization of newly assigned personnel.

  • Perform routine housekeeping of packaging line area(s) as needed

  • Performs other related duties as necessary; such as, preparation of product for recycle/rework through packaging line

  • Assist in changeovers and make minor adjustments as needed.

REQUIRMENTS:

  • High School Diploma or GED

  • Read/ follow instructions to set up and evaluate machines and equipment performance.

  • Use eyes, hands and fingers to adjust controls on machines, manipulate hand tools, or assemble products.

  • Use math skills and the use of digital scales for measuring, computing, or record keeping.

  • Detect differences in the shape, size, texture and/or color of various items.

  • Pay strict attention to set standards and guidelines.

  • Apply common sense understanding to carry out detailed but uninvolved written or oral instructions.

  • Deal with problems involving a few concrete variables in or from standardized situations.

  • Comparing: Judging the readily observable, functional, structural or composition characteristics (whether similar to or divergent from obvious standards) of data and objects.

  • Taking Instructions-Helping: Works in a team environment, may need to help others to keep job moving, and will be flexible to take instruction as deemed necessary by lead.

  • Tending: Starting, stopping, and observing the functioning of machines and equipment.

  • Involves adjusting materials or controls of the machine. Some judgment is involved in making these adjustments.
