Zekelman Industries Cab Crane Operator in Chicago, Illinois

Atlas Tube, a division of Zekelman Industries, is looking for a Cab Crane Operator. Responsible for moving finish steel tubing from the production mills to the warehouse, loading and unloading steel tubing and must demonstrate a full understanding of the entire operation. Must have effective communications, work safely and operate a 20 ton Cab Crane with articulating forks.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Operating a 20-ton cab crane articulating forks in the warehouse to maintain the flow of structural steel tubes

  • Supporting a high demand, fast paced mill operation while maintaining the warehouse inventory

  • Constantly removing material from the mill tables to stack in the warehouse storage bays

  • Loading customer loads onto flatbed trailers with multiple sizes of steel tubing consisting of rounds, squares, and rectangles

  • Perform duties in accordance with company safety policies and report unsafe conditions

  • Unloading inbound loads from flatbed trailers to stack in warehouse storage bays

  • Responsible for relocating material between warehouse storage bays to open storage space for upcoming mill rollings

  • Assist employees with operational issues and make corrections

  • Perform checks and complete a visual inspection before operating equipment

  • Monitor product quality and keep work area clean and orderly

  • Train other employees when assigned by the foreman

QUALIFICATIONS: The ideal candidate for the Cab Crane Operator opportunity will possess an Associate’s Degree and at least 2 years of equivalent experience in a manufacturing environment. Completion of military service is considered equivalent to a 2 year degree.

  • Cab Crane experience is preferred.

  • Must be able to follow written/verbal instructions; basic computer skills; able to read measuring devices/equipment

  • Basic math skills and must be able to lift 50 lbs.

  • Exhibits effective listening, communication, interpersonal skills, and must be a team player

  • Visual acuity to read and record numerical data

  • Attention to detail, dependability, professionalism and a great work ethic

  • The employee is regularly required to stand and walk, use hands, handle or feel, and reach with hands and arms.

  • Ability to lift, climb, bend, stoop, push and pull

  • Regular, full-time, predictable onsite attendance per the posted schedule is an essential function of this role

  • The employee is regularly exposed to moving mechanical parts and fumes or airborne particles. The employee is occasionally exposed to wet and/or humid conditions. The noise level in the work environment is usually loud.

  • Lead and promote health and safety work practices as required by regulatory agencies and company policy
